People Who Help Us

It has been a busy month with lots of visitors to our Nursery. We had fun learning about the hospital in our role play area, making fire engines from junk art materials, painting and drawing people who help us pictures and filling medicine bottles in the water tray. We also enjoyed completing lots of puzzles linked to our topic and of course meeting the one and only ‘Sidney the skeleton’ and learning about our bones! Our heart shaped crispie cake pops for valentines went down a treat as did our pancakes….YUM!

Shrove Tuesday

Mix a pancake, Stir a pancake

JANUARY

Look at what we have been up to in January

As part of our topic of Winter we have been learning about how important it is to look after the birds.  Using our recyclable materials we got to work making bird feeders, we then made bird food to fill them before hanging them out.  Not long after we noticed lots of birds tweeting and singing in our trees.  Using our bird chart and binoculars we enjoyed bird watching to find that the most frequent visitor to our garden was the starling! We also used clay to make bird drawings.

We had fun learning about frost, ice, freezing and melting.  We made a huge Jack Frost display by mixing paint to make shades of blue and using shiny materials for icicles.  Then we made icy, cold snowflakes.

We also put some water into a bowl with some toys and then set it into the freezer overnight.  In the morning the ice was frozen.  We put it on our tuff spot and used hammers to chip at the ice to get the toys.  While we were doing this we observed how the ice started to melt.

It would not be winter without some snow! Not only did we have fun experimenting and investigating to make fake snow but we also had fun outside in the real thing!

Using the outdoor blocks to build an igloo!  We were hoping to build a real one but we didn’t get enough snow in Portadown so we had to build a sugar cube igloo instead!

We have been learning about and investigating materials such as glass, plastic, metal, paper, wood and fabric.  We also talked about recycling and have been busy using our recycled items in our art area to build and construct.  Can you guess which items were magnetic from our photographs?

What else have we been up to?

Role Play in our shop where we were  learning about number and making  and following a shopping list.

Following instructions to build models.

Playing snap on the interactive whiteboard.

Learning about winter animals.

Outdoor fun.

Happy 4th Birthday!

Freeze Frames

Can you guess from our actions what we are acting out? to give you a clue…some of us are snowflakes, others are cold and shivery and others icicles!
